The turtle is one of Oman’s common marine creatures, found mostly along the coasts of the Sharqiyah in the South Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. This coast attracts around five known species of turtles, large numbers of which migrate annually from other seas to lay their eggs before returning across the ocean. The Ras al Had Turtle Reserve has been designated as a protectorate to safeguard turtles and their nesting.
