Jewel of Muscat

The Jewel of Muscat, a traditional Arabian dhow and an iconic symbol of Oman’s maritime history, was a State Gift to Singapore from His Majesty the late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. A reconstruction of an 18-metre-long and 6-metre-width traditional Arabian dhow dating back to the 9th century, the Jewel of Muscat is a two-masted ship made only using woods and ropes without using any nails or metal components. It sailed from Muscat on 16 February 2010, and reached Singapore on 3 July 2010. The Jewel’s 17-man crew comprising of 16 Omanis and one Singaporean harnessed the wind to sail the 6,630 km journey, just like in the 9th century! The reconstructed Jewel stands as an iconic cultural project showcasing the historical ties between the governments of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore. It was the centrepiece of the Maritime Experiential Museum, and will be displayed at the Singapore Oceanarium at Resorts World Sentosa in 2025.
