Luban (frankincense)
Luban is an aromatic natural resin extracted by tapping the barks and branches of frankincense trees, which grow in the mountains and valleys in Dhofar in the southern part of the Sultanate of Oman. Luban may be put to many uses, including as an aromatic bukhoor when burnt or used as medication, among other properties. Hojari is the most well-known type of Luban. The Luban tree was one of the valued items exported from Oman since the third millennium BC. Romans, Greeks, and Egyptian pharoahs of antiquity used luban for their rituals, cleansing, and as a medication for many ailments.
